Conservation and tourism are woven tightly together, and it is no exception that African Latitude makes huge efforts towards protecting the environment and maintaining good relationships with the local population.

Conservation
We are committed to preserving the area where we operate our safaris. Over the years we have been operating in a manner which has left the environment virtually intact. Trace of our camps are almost non-existant, maybe the ashes from the fire, and even this will disappear in the near future as we have been upgrading our mobile camps cooking facilities to gas burners.
Wood, whether live or dead is a precious commodity. Burning wood not only adds to ones carbon footprint, but it also destroys the habitats of small rodents and myriads of insects.
Our carbon footprint is of great concern to us. Part of our reduction effort is to use pack animals carrying camp equipment for our walking safaris, and at the same time this gives the local tribes an opportunity to earn some revenue as guides or owners of the donkeys & camels.

SILOAM ORPHANAGE

We believe that education is the best long term investment we can offer in Africa. Today's children will be tomorrow's guardians and leaders of the country. We have put in place several schemes in which you could participate and help some of the children you will meet on safari or children in one small orphanage in Kibera, which we have been helping for sometime.

LOISIIJO COMMUNITY/SHOMPOLE GROUP RANCH

For years we have been walking through the Shompole Group Ranch in the Rift valley, and enjoying our contacts with the Masai from the Loodokilani Clan. Over time we have appreciated the involvement of this community in preserving their tradition, wildlife and environment. We are now assisting them in the building of a small eco friendly lodge, totally owned by the group ranch.

LOITA HILLS SCHOOL

Through payment of Community fees, camping fees and employment of the local community, we have over the past 12 years been helping the Loita Masai and the Karissia Samburu to understand the importance of safeguarding the land and its wildlife for tourism. Furthermore as a result of revenue earned from tourists, we are currently sponsoring 8 primary schools and paying school & boarding fees for several children.
